Drawing workshop for 4th-7th graders

Master watercolor artist and local mural painter Ellen Elmes will be teaching art classes this spring at Appalachian Arts Center for students currently enrolled in 4th-7th grade. (Classes for younger children will be offered in April.) The 4 class session, entitled “Drawing People from around the World,” will be held on the following dates: Thursday, March 19; Thursday March 26; Tuesday, March 31; and Thursday, April 2nd. The classes will be held from 4:00-5:30pm at the Arts Center. The cost is $45.00 for the 4 class session. Supplies will be provided, although participants are asked to bring a smock or old shirt to cover their clothes. This workshop will focus on learning drawing skills, particularly in regard to the human figure. During the first session, participants will enjoy hands-on exercises designed to discover general proportions of the human figure and how to draw action figures, including the exaggerated proportions of super heroes! In the ensuing three other sessions, visiting models will pose in the dress of varied traditional cultures and countries. Participants will learn to observe details of clothing, hair, and facial expression and will create drawings of the models from life. Come join us - it will be fun!!
