Fall Leaf Zentangle

On Saturday, October 21st at 2:00pm, Appalachian Arts Center will offer community members a way to celebrate the autumn season through creative expression. Certified Zentangle instructor Kat Van Rooyen, who received her certification from the method's founders, will lead participants in the creation of a Zentangle inspired fall leaf. This workshop is appropriate for beginners and for those looking for a way to make drawings or paintings, but not sure where to start.

Zentangle is an easy -to -learn, relaxing, and fun way to make art by drawing deliberate strokes, which build upon each other to form structured patterns. Many find the practice meditative. This class will provide the beginner with a background in the history of the art form, introduce them to the basic steps of the method and expose them to associated vocabulary and tools used. Each participant will learn 4 basic Zentangle patterns and will then draw these patterns within a fall leaf template painted in autumnal shades. Once the drawing phase is completed, participants may wish to further embellish the watercolor painting with pastels.

The workshop is designed to last approximately three hours including a 15 minute break halfway through. The cost of the workshop is $35 and includes all materials. The class is limited to 12 participants, so make sure to register early to reserve your spot. Payments must be received in advance to hold a spot, and can be made via credit card by calling the Arts Center at 276-596-9188, or by stopping by the Center during regular business hours: Tuesday- Friday: 12-6pm; and Saturday: 10am-6pm. Appalachian Arts Center, a part of Southwest Virginia Community College, is located in the ‘Old Archie Helton Store’ on Rt. 19, 2.5 miles south of Claypool Hill.
