Barter Theatre Acting Workshops for Children & Youth

Appalachian Arts Center will be hosting a variety of workshops presented by Barter Theatre's Education Wing this fall. The four-week workshops will be held on Saturdays, October 22 and 29 and November 5 and 12, 2011 at the Center. "JUMP! SPIN! SHOUT!" for children ages 4 to 7 will be from 10:00 until 11:00 am. Bring your child to this workshop to explore basic theatre skills in a fun way. Through a variety of theatre games, they’ll practice creating with others, listening, and learning the basic skills of imaginative voice and movement that are needed to make stories fun and interesting. Tuition for this four-week workshop is $60. "DOWNSTAGE CENTER" for children ages 8 to 11 will be from 11:15 am until 12:15 pm. Learn better living through acting! In this basic skills class, your child will learn the elements crucial to good acting, which can all be applied to real life situations. Good actors are good listeners, clear speakers, make strong choices, commit well, and play well with others. Kids will have fun playing various theatre games that result in better stage presence and better public presence. Tuition for this four-week workshop is $60. "ACTING I" for youth ages 12 to 18 will be from 1:00 until 2:30 pm. This class introduces students to the terminology and techniques that professional actors use in their work. We cover the most important fundamentals of acting, including action and objectives, tactics, listening, specificity, and commitment. Using theatre games, we will challenge students to improve during every day, and learn to balance personal expression with responsibility to one’s scene partner. Tuition for this four-week workshop is $90. Scholarships are available for these workshops.
