Quilting Class for Kids

On Tuesday May, 23rd and Tuesday, May 30th, from 4-6 p.m., elementary school students are invited to attend a basic quilting workshop. Each child will make a 12 inch 'Americana' quilt square from start to finish, using red, white and blue fabrics. Skills learned will include sewing with a machine, hand sewing, hand quilting, design, and assembling the batting, quilt top and backing. Completed squares will be displayed in the gallery through the summer as part of Appalachian Arts Center's annual community quilt challenge. Quilter Jean Condon will teach the class. Sewing since since she was a child, Mrs. Condon learned to sew by watching her mother sew clothes and housewares for the family. She began quilting 12 years ago and has been prolific ever since. The cost for the class is $28 per student, and all materials are included. There is room in the workshop for 10 students. Please call the Arts Center at 276-596-9188 to reserve a space for your child with a credit card.
